·
A Bi-lingual News Management System, WICEditorial
·
Photo Gallery
·
Library Management System
WICEditorial has the following subsystems:
·
Regional Editorial Subsystem
·
Central Editorial Subsystem
·
Communications Subsystem
·
Subscribers Editorial Subsystem
The Photo Gallery System
·
Is used to maintain a database of photographs that
represent different events, historical sites, known persons, and other
important pictures. The Photo Gallery mainly serves as the input of
photographs for the WIC Editorial System and Walta web site
(www.waltainfo.com).
Major Features of WICEditorial
The following are the major features of Bi-lingual
Editorial System of Walta Information Center.
·
The system enables Reporters, Editors, Chief Editors
and other users to collaboratively work on one or more stories within the
fr amework of their security
rights.
·
The system implements a flexible Archiving facility.
The final copy of every transmitted story is automatically archived as the
background for future reference.
·
Searching for past stories is one of the most
demanded features of a successful Editorial System. The WIC Editorial
System enables users to search for past stories, both Amharic and
English,by keyword, date, logical operators, desk and
classification
·
When authorized users, mainly chief editors, in each
desk grant permission to transmit a given story, the system routes the
story to the Communication Manager. The story will then be queued and
transmitted to the authorized subscriber.
·
The system allows users at a given desk to view every
story under preparation by other desks, and translate the story of
interest. The system provides a means for displaying two windows, one of
which displays the story to be translated while the second is used to
create the translated story.
·
The system provides a classification manager with a
feature for defining Classification and Sub-classification codes, which
are used with every story.
·
The system has facilities for defining a group of
users such as Reporters group, Editors group, and Administrators group.
Each group will have a set of pre-defined rights as defined by the
Administrator of the system. For example, members of the Reporters group
may not have the right to transmit a story.
·
Moreover, the system has inter-desk security
restriction. Users in a given desk may be allowed to read stories of other
desks but not allowed to modify them.
·
WICEditorial has facilities for producing statistical
and decision support reports.
·
The editorial system is fully bi-lingual. It allows
both Amharic and English news processing, with full support for sorting
and searching in Amharic.
·
The system's user interface supports both
Amharic and English.
·
English-Amharic Date Conversions are also
automatically handled by the system.
