  • Unicode Standard Compliant. Visual Geez Unicode is currently the only locally developed Unicode standard compliant Geez software.

In the Unicode standard, each character is represented using 2 bytes. Unicode fonts can contain thousands of characters from different scripts. According to the standard, the range 4608-4991 is assigned for the Ethiopic script.

  • Each character stands on its own. In this version, no character extension (ቅጥያ) is used.

  • Can read documents created using any Standard-compliant software (without any conversion)

  • Supports phonetic and typewriter keyboard layout

  •  Includes a WYSIWYG converter that converts from/to different fonts, including:

    o       Agafari

  • Has three good Unicode fonts. However, it can also be used with any Unicode-compliant fonts from other vendors.

  • Runs on Windows 95/Me/98/NT/2000/XP

  • Works with all Windows Applications, including MS Office XP, MS Publisher, and other Windows Applications.

  • The Visual Geez Unicode fonts include both Latin and Geez characters.  This has a number of advantages:

     

    • You can view databases that contain both Amharic and Latin Columns.

    • You can switch between Geez and Latin without changing fonts

     

  • Unlike the propriety Geez applications, this version does not require users of MS Office to disable "Auto-format" and "Auto-Correct" features.
